IMF demands independence for Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies
Ukraine’s additional support at the International Monetary Fund depended on the work of anti-corruption bodies.
The IMF said that the continuation of the financial support program for Ukraine depends on the independence of NABU, SAP and VAKS. This was during a briefing on September 10 in Washington, said International Monetary Fund Representative Jerry Rice.
“I can say that for Ukraine, building an effective anti-corruption base has been a critical element of the IMF’s interaction with Ukraine in recent years. Supporting the independence and integrity of NABU, SAP, and VAKS is a key component of the structural reforms to ensure stronger and more equitable growth and – I would say – is a prerequisite under the current IMF-backed program, ”Rice said.
According to him, the IMF continues to discuss the program, its conditions and obligations with the Ukrainian authorities. At the moment, the date of the first reconnaissance mission has not yet been set.
Previously, the Cabinet of Ministers ruled out the possibility of refusing to grant a new loan from the International Monetary Fund.
Let us remember that the National Bank expects to receive the second tranche of the loan from the International Monetary Fund at the end of this year. This forecast was announced by the head of the NBU Kirill Shevchenko.
