The head of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine, Andriy Malevany, said that the final amount for the leak of harmful substances from the Delfi tanker that sank in Odessa is $ 16.3 thousand, and as of September 10, the excess of petroleum products in water is 0.09 mg / dm3. According to the results of laboratory studies carried out by SEI specialists in the Odessa region, an excess of the normalized values ​​of the maximum allowable concentration for the content of petroleum products in water was revealed. Its indicators as of September 10 are 0.09 mg / cubic dm. The total amount of losses due to the leakage of pollutants is 16,3 thousand dollars (about 453 thousand hryvnyas). This amount is final. The claim has already been sent to the shipowner for voluntary compensation for losses, ”said the president of the State Environmental Inspectorate, Andriy Malevanny.

He also added that the amount is not very large due to the loss calculation method.

“Many will now wonder why the amount of losses is so low? Because today the losses due to the discharge of all pollutants into bodies of water are calculated using the same method. The losses due to the input of the same quantity of oil products and palm oil in the deposit are the same. Although oil products are much more damaging to the ecosystem than butter, “explained Andrey Malevany.

He also added that the SEI is developing a draft of legislative changes so that the amount of losses from infractions such as the spillage of petroleum products at sea is actually a significant amount.
