Serbia refused to participate in military exercises in Belarus

Serbian army will not go to Belarus

Serbia is a neutral country and, to maintain this status, the government decided to stop participating in international exercises for six months.

EU authorities demanded that Serbia abandon the Slavic Brotherhood-2020 joint military exercises with Russia and Belarus. The Belgrade official, in response, decided to freeze all joint exercise plans with all countries. Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandr Vulin said this, reports espreso.rs on Wednesday, September 9.

According to him, the EU issued an ultimatum demanding that Serbia abandon the exercises in Belarus at the cost of abandoning the European future, in addition to increasing pressure on Belgrade over the problems of Kosovo, Metohija and the Republika Srpska (a formation within Bosnia and Herzegovina ).

“Serbia is facing terrible and undeserved pressure from the EU. A pressure that does not make sense and is not based on our decisions and actions is the result of the hysteria that determines the political decisions and the directions of the big powerful countries”, Vulin said.

He recalled that Serbia is a neutral country and to maintain this status, the government decided to stop participating in international exercises for six months.

“Neither East nor West. Our participation in peacekeeping operations will be especially considered and, if necessary, suspended,” Vulin said.

On the eve it was reported that in September Belarus will host the Slavic Brotherhood-2020 counter-terrorism exercises, in which Serbian and Russian military will participate.

It was also reported that Serbia and Kosovo agreed to normalize economic relations. The agreement was signed in Washington through the mediation of the US presidential administration.
