The leader of the Russian opposition Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a new type of poison “Novichok”, which can only be accessed by special services.
This is reported by the German magazine Die Zeit, citing unidentified sources.
According to the publication, this version of “Novichok” is more deadly and acts more slowly than the versions that were previously known.

According to the poisoners’ plan, Navalny was supposed to die on the plane, but he survived “thanks to a string of happy accidents”: the actions of the pilot who immediately landed the plane and the doctors who immediately injected him with atropine.
According to Die Zeit, only the Russian special service could carry out an operation with such a new poison.
“This leaves only one plausible conclusion: it was the Kremlin that gave the order to get the unwanted politician off the road,” Die Zeit believes.
The remains of the substance, according to sources in the publication, German doctors found on the neck of a bottle of water, from which Navalny drank, and in his hands. According to Die Zeit, German authorities believe that one of the agents who followed the politician could have inflicted poison on the surface of the cup from which the politician was drinking tea, or sprayed poison on the finished tea.

- “Novichok” is a group of organophosphates with nerve agents. The Soviet Union led its development in the 1970s and 1980s.
- The group “Novichok” includes more than a hundred toxic substances of various structures. The most dangerous of them are “Novichok-5” and “Novichok-7”. They are eight times more toxic than VX gas, the most poisonous of all substances artificially synthesized by humans.
- The “novice” affects the nervous system, as a result of which the victim of poisoning cannot breathe and experiences very severe pain.
