Aivaras Abromavicius may lose his position

Prime Minister Denis Shmygal introduced President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the appointment of Sergei Tikhonov as CEO of Ukroboronprom, the source claims.

The director general of the Ukroboronprom worries that Aivaras Abromavichus will soon leave his post. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to a source in the government on Wednesday September 9.

It is stated that Prime Minister Denis Shmygal introduced President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the appointment of Sergei Tikhonov as CEO of Ukroboronprom, who currently heads the Department of Security and the Defense Industry Complex in the Office of the President.

“The prime minister has already submitted a proposal,” the source said, adding that Tikhonov was proposed as CEO of Ukroboronprom.

In turn, RBC-Ukraine clarifies that the main reason for the rotation in concern is “the profitability and development strategy of Ukroboronprom”.

Sergei Tikhonov was a People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Convocations III and IV (1998-2006) of the Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine and the For a United Ukraine bloc.

Recall that on August 30, 2019, President Zelenskyy signed a decree appointing Abromavichus as CEO of Ukroboronprom.

Aivaras Abromavicius is a Lithuanian and Ukrainian businessman, co-owner and one of the administrators of the Swedish investment firm East Capital. Former Minister of Economic Development and Commerce. Abromavicius announced his resignation in February 2016. He complained that then-President Petro Poroshenko’s business partner, former people’s deputy Igor Kononenko, was blocking the work of the ministry.
