The Central Election Commission did not call local elections in the front-line areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions due to the impossibility of guaranteeing complete security there during voting. Information on the situation in these areas is received from intelligence, military and special services.

This was stated by the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Oleksiy Danilov, on the air of the television channel Ukraine 24.

According to him, the Ukrainian authorities do not want any provocation to take place at the polling stations near the front line on election day.

“If we know that there is security, that there is peace, that there is nothing terrible there, elections will be held there, but for that we have to be 100% sure. Because, God forbid, something’s going on at the polling station. site, this is a special process, this is a crowd of people. We don’t want there to be a provocation, “he explained.

At the same time, the NSDC secretary does not believe that failure to hold local elections in frontline areas violates the constitutional rights of their residents.

“If we were talking about presidential or parliamentary elections, it would be a violation of constitutional rights. Now (in the Donbass – ed.) There is a CAA that fully meets the needs of these citizens. Nothing stopped there,” Danilov emphasized.

Recall that on August 8, the CEC announced local elections in 24 regions of the country, with the exception of the occupied and front-line areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

At the same time, the CEC does not rule out that October 25 elections will be held in frontline regions.
