Former head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Bogdan believes that Kiev “harshly threw out” Russian President Vladimir Putin. He expressed this opinion in an interview with the founder of the publication. “GORDON” Dmitry Gordon.
In particular, Bogdan noted that in December 2019, during the Normandy Four summit, negotiations were difficult, but Putin spoke “very respectfully” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“While [Путин] I wanted to find some solution to this problem. But I don’t know for what reasons: economic or political … It seems to me that this is also for political reasons. Zelensky has fierce support, even in Russia, and to fight with the favorite of his people is to present himself improperly, “he said.
At the same time, Bogdan believes that “today the situation has changed dramatically.”
“I can only judge a few public moments where I understand well. Now if a message is posted that a phone conversation between Putin and Zelensky took place, but the press releases about the conversation are different … This is called a “diplomatic failure”, the negotiations went wrong. What I see – it seems to me that somehow we threw it out harshly: we only promised one thing – we did nothing, “said the former official.

On December 9, 2019, Paris hosted the first summit of the Normandy Four leaders in three years. The final communiqué establishes that the parties agreed to a ceasefire, the opening of new checkpoints, the exchange of detainees according to the formula of “all for all” until December 31, 2019, the withdrawal of forces and funds in three new areas in the Donbass, the extension of the law for one year. “On the special procedure for local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions” and the extension of the mandate of the special OSCE monitoring mission. The agreements were partially implemented. The next summit was expected to take place in March-April 2020, but this did not happen.
