Navalny poisoning: a protest was made to the German ambassador in Moscow

The Russian prosecution demanded that the FRG provide medical data on the state of Navalny. The Foreign Ministry says they will view the lack of response as a provocation.

The Russian Foreign Ministry filed a strong protest against the German ambassador in Moscow, Geza Andreas von Gaire, calling the accusations against the Russian authorities of involvement in the poisoning of opposition leader Alexei Navalny “unfounded”. This was reported by the department’s press service on Wednesday, September 9.

“A strong protest was made to the Ambassador regarding the presentation by the Federal Government of Germany of unfounded accusations and ultimatums against Russia in the context of the illness and hospitalization of the Russian citizen Alexei Navalny, as well as the obvious use by Berlin of the situation that has arisen with him as a reason to discredit our country in the international arena “, – he said in the statement.

The ministry also added that the lack of response from Berlin to the request of the Attorney General of the Russian Federation regarding the poisoning of Navalny would be considered a provocation, laden with consequences for bilateral relations.

“In the context of this hysteria, the requirement to provide a substantive and detailed response from the German side to the official request of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office dated August 27, 2020 with all medical data, including biomaterials, has been renewed. test results and test samples, for the purpose of comprehensive study and verification by specialists. The Ambassador indicated that the absence of the above materials will be considered as a refusal of the Federal Government of Germany to establish the truth in the framework of an objective investigation, and its previous and subsequent actions in relation to Navalny as a serious hostile provocation against Russia, fraught with consequences for Russian-German relations, as well as serious complication of the international situation, “the statement read.

“All responsibility for the consequences of such a policy will rest with the Federal Government of Germany and its allies in NATO and the European Union,” the diplomatic department concluded.

In turn, the representative of the government of the FRG, Martina Fitz, said that the German side has created all the conditions for the work of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in the poisoning of Navalny.

“We have created all the conditions for the OPCW to do its job,” Fitz said, adding that “Russia, not Germany, has the information that is needed, so Russia must explain.”

We will recall that previously the G7 Foreign Ministers called for the punishment of those responsible for the poisoning of Navalny. Germany informed the G7 partners of the conclusions of the German experts that Navalny was probably exposed to a substance from the Novichok group.

It was also reported that Germany had submitted the results of the bulk samples to the OPCW. Russia is a member of the OPCW, so Berlin will not transfer evidence about Navalny to it separately.
