65 Russian planes arrested for flights to Crimea

Ukraine has closed airspace over Crimea since March 2014

Some 40 Russian companies have been identified that carry out regular air transport of passengers to Crimea in violation of international flight rules and the laws of Ukraine.

The court arrested 65 Russian airline planes for violating the order to enter and exit the annexed Crimea. On Wednesday September 9, the press secretary of the Crimean Prosecutor’s Office, Ekaterina Didenko, announced this.

There are now about 40 Russian airlines operating scheduled passenger air transport to Crimea in violation of international flight rules and Ukrainian laws, he said.

In this regard, the Crimean Prosecutor’s Office, together with the Crimean Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine, are investigating criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 332-1, Article 334 and Part 1 of Article 111 of the Code Criminal (violation by foreign airline officials of the rules of international flights and violation of the procedure for entering and leaving temporarily uncontrolled territory).

Ukraine has closed airspace over Crimea since March 2014 because it cannot guarantee the safety of flights.

As previously reported, the prosecution and the police of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea initiated criminal proceedings for the fact of illegal searches in the houses of Crimean Tatar activists, which are being carried out on the territory of the peninsula.
