Aleksievich remains the only free member of the Coordination Council

Searches are ongoing at the headquarters of the arrested Viktor Babariko and at the home of the detainees Maxim Znak and Maria Kolesnikova.

In Belarus, on Wednesday September 9, searches of opposition representatives are carried out. Among the opposition leaders, only Svetlana Aleksievich remains at large.

Thus, the headquarters of the arrested banker Viktor Babariko reported on the investigative actions, from which the member of the Presidium of the Coordination Union Maxim Znak was previously kidnapped.

“Investigative actions are being carried out at headquarters. The Interior Ministry and people in civilian clothes are working,” the headquarters said.

The opposition also reports that searches are taking place at the homes of the council presidium members, Maxim Znak and Maria Kolesnikova.

Znak’s lawyer, Dmitry Laevsky, said he was arrested in a criminal case about the establishment of the Coordination Council “for calls to action aimed at damaging the national security of the Republic of Belarus.” The cartel was previously held in this case as a witness. “His legal status is currently unknown,” the Constitutional Court said.

In addition, Svetlana Aleksievich, a Nobel laureate and member of the Presidium of the Coordinating Council of the Belarusian opposition, said that unknown persons were trying to enter her apartment.

Aleksievich remains the only free member of the council who has not yet left Belarus.

He also responded to a statement from the authorities about the preparation of a coup.

“We were not preparing a coup. We wanted to avoid a division in our country. We wanted a dialogue to start in society,” Alexievich’s speech reads on the Pen Center website.

He called on the Russian intelligentsia to more actively condemn the brutality of the security forces in Belarus.

Regrets the persecution of members of the opposition council. “There are no longer any of my like-minded friends in the Presidium of the Coordinating Council. They are all in prison or abroad. Today they took the last one, Maxim Znak. First, they kidnapped the country, they kidnapped the best. But instead of those torn from our ranks, hundreds more will come. It was not the Coordination Committee that rebelled. The country rebelled, “he said.

However, he complained that he was concerned about visits from strangers. “Here again, someone unknown is knocking on the door …” – concluded Aleksievich.

Let us remind you that on the night of September 8, three Belarusian opponents were expelled to Ukraine: Anton Rodnenkov and Ivan Kravtsov were admitted and Maria Kolesnikova was arrested. According to Rodnenkov and Kravtsov, she tore up her passport at the border to avoid expulsion. There is no information from Kolesnikova as of September 7. According to media reports, she is in Minsk jail.
