Romania calls for guaranteeing the linguistic rights of ethnic Romanians. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported that it had already taken into account all the comments of the Venice Commission.

Ukraine, after implementing the recommendations of the Venice Commission, no longer intends to change the law on education at the request of other countries. This was announced on Tuesday, September 8, at a joint press conference with the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba.

“When the law on education was passed, the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe made several comments to it, Ukraine amended this law and implemented the recommendations of the Venice Commission. We do not plan to further change this law to meet the requirements of certain countries. , but we are absolutely ready to ensure the implementation of this law in such a way that the interests of Ukraine and in this case the interests of Romania are protected, “Kuleba said.

He also recalled that the transition to a new educational system for schools with the language of instruction of national minorities has been postponed until 2023, and there is still time to ensure adaptation.

In turn, Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu called on Ukraine to guarantee the linguistic rights of ethnic Romanians. According to him, this issue remains a priority on the bilateral agenda.

According to Aurescu, the ministers agreed to continue the activities of the commission for the protection of the rights of national minorities, whose last meeting was held in December 2018.

The ministers also discussed the completion of negotiations on a bilateral cooperation protocol in the field of education on the linguistic rights of ethnic Romanians and the possibility of holding negotiations to conclude an agreement on the guarantee of the rights of national minorities.

In addition, the Romanian Foreign Minister assured Ukraine of support for its European and Euro-Atlantic path.

Yesterday it was reported that Ukraine will open a new consulate in Romania. The new consulate will create access to quality services and will also become a tool for better interaction with Ukrainians in Romania.

It was previously reported that Ukraine and Romania agreed on military-technical cooperation. It was signed by Ukraine’s Defense Minister Andriy Taran during a working visit to Romania.
