Khashoggi criticized the Saudi Arabian authorities in his posts
The verdict is final and must be carried out, the Saudi Arabian Attorney General’s office said.
A court in Saudi Arabia has issued a final verdict on eight accused of participating in the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. This was announced on Monday, September 7, by the Al Arabiya television channel.
Five people were sentenced to 20 years in prison for participating in the murder and three more defendants were sentenced to prison for a period of seven to ten years.
The verdict is final and must be carried out, the Saudi Arabian Attorney General’s office said.
Under Saudi Arabian law, the family of the victim has the right to pardon the offender. This pardon does not allow the perpetrator to be sentenced to death.
As you know, Khashoggi disappeared on October 2 during a visit to the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul. Kingdom officials initially insisted that he leave the consulate alive. However, on October 19, Riyadh still admitted that the journalist was killed inside the building.
