Official contacts between Ukraine and Belarus remain under arrest, but Ambassador Igor Kizim returned to Minsk. He was summoned to Kiev on August 17 for a consultation after Minsk transferred the detained Wagnerites to Russia.
Ukraine’s ambassador to Belarus Igor Kizim returned to Minsk after consultations, Radio Svoboda reported on September 7.
According to the diplomat, official contacts between Ukraine and Belarus remain on hold. Further development of bilateral relations will depend on many factors, in particular the situation in Belarus, as well as integration processes within the State of the Union of Belarus and Russia, Kizim noted.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on August 17 summoned Kizim for consultations to Kiev… This happened after Minsk transferred to Russia the detained mercenaries from Wagner’s PMC.. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy considered this a hostile move from Belarus. In his opinion, the consequences of the release of the mercenaries “will be tragic”.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba, said it was decided to stop official contacts with Belarus until “they incur no reputational, political or moral losses for Ukraine.”
