Former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, who today heads the Executive Committee for Reforms under Ukraine’s presidency, was nominated for the post of Prime Minister of Georgia. He became a candidate for the opposition group Strength in Unity.

This was stated by the leader of the United National Movement party, Grigol Vashadze, reports Georgia Online.

According to him, Saakashvili must return to Georgia.

“That is why the United National Movement and all the parties that make up the United Opposition decided to nominate him for the post of Prime Minister of Georgia,” Vashadze said.

Saakashvili is expected to make a statement today about his plans to return to Georgia.

Please note that the parliamentary elections in this country will be held on October 31st.

Let us remind you that there was information in August about Saakashvili’s intention to return to Georgia, despite the existence of judgments against him and several other criminal cases.

RBC-Ukraine’s Office of the President stated that they could not comment on Saakashvili’s decision, as this could be seen as interference in Georgia’s internal affairs.

In the summer of 2020, the Georgian Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian ambassador several times to clarify Saakashvili’s scandalous statements about the illegitimacy of the local government.
