It should be noted that the ministry “makes numerous statements hostile to Russia” on the situation around the state of health of the poisoned Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny, in whose body the German doctors found a poisonous substance from the Novichok group.

The poisoning of Alexei Navalny: what happened to the Russian opponent

  • On August 20, Navalny was returning to Moscow from Tomsk, during the flight he became ill, the plane urgently landed in Omsk. Navalny was hospitalized. Two days later, he was evacuated from Omsk to the Charite clinic in Berlin.
  • On Aug. 24, Charite said medical investigation indicated that Navalny was poisoned. Later it was learned that the politician had been poisoned with a chemical from the Novichok group. On September 4, it became known that experts from the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the German Armed Forces in Munich found traces of a toxic substance from the Novichok group in Navalny’s blood, urine and skin.
  • European politicians have repeatedly called on Russia to investigate the Navalny poisoning.
  • On September 4, the ambassadors of the 30 NATO member states in an emergency meeting called for an international investigation into the Navalny poisoning.
  • In March 2018, former Russian agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were poisoned with the nerve agent Novichok in Salisbury, UK. The UK government said the military-grade substance that poisoned Skripal was developed in Russia.
