The small armored artillery ship Kostopol was included in the Ukrainian naval forces after the successful completion of tests. This was announced on Saturday, September 5, by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The ship was built at the Kuznitsa shipyard in Rybatsky and was named in honor of the town of Kostopol, Rivne region, where the seaman Alexei Kondratyuk was born, who died near Mariupol on March 17, 2017.
The ship is equipped with modern navigation and radar equipment and weapons to defeat enemy targets. Kostopol is hardly noticeable for radar and infrared detection systems.
The ship is also equipped with a protection system against enemy weapons and an automatic system for setting up smoke and heat screens.
The task of these ships is to patrol in the area near the sea, protect and defend ports, maritime and river communications within territorial marine waters, participating in various maritime operations to counter the landing of enemy troops on the coast.
Recall that in December 2019, the Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Igor Voronchenko, announced the formation of a division of surface forces in the Sea of Azov. According to him, the small armored artillery ship Kostopol will enter this division after passing state tests.
