Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that in October Ukrainians will receive the lowest gas price since Ukraine’s independence.
Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said that the price of gas for the population in October will fluctuate from 4.7 to 5 thousand hryvnia per 1000 m³. Said this on the air of the TV channel “Ukraine”.
“This is the lowest price in the last five years, and this is the lowest price level in principle since independence. This is a free market, a person can choose a supplier. There is competition and this helps to reduce prices “said the Ukrainian prime minister.
Shmyhal also spoke about seasonal fluctuations in gas prices.
“Naturally, gas is more expensive in winter, we will pay more for it. It is still unknown how much gas will cost in winter, everything must be regulated by the market,” predicted Shmygal.
The prime minister emphasized that after the winter increase in gasoline prices, spring and summer will follow.
From August 1, 2020, the gas market started operating in Ukraine. The population can freely change providers. On August 26, the gas supply company Naftogaz Ukrainy increased the cost of gas for the population by concluding a one-year contract from September 16 to 30 to 5.24 UAH per m³.
Naftogaz Ukrainy has monopoly access to natural gas, which is produced by state-owned companies: Ukrgazvydobuvannya and Chornomornaftogaz, which accounts for more than 73% of all gas production in Ukraine, notes Delo.ua. On August 5, the Parliament registered Bill No. 3958, which provides for the deprivation of the monopoly position of Naftogaz Ukrainy.
