Ukraine has the lowest gas price in five years – Shmyhal
Starting this month, the price of gas for the population will begin to rise and this process will continue also in winter, said the prime minister.
Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said that the price of gas for the population of Ukraine in October will range from 4,700 to 5,000 hryvnia per thousand cubic meters. However, after the heating season is over, gas will become cheaper again. He said this on Friday, September 4, on the air of the television channel Ukraine 24.
“If we take the past five years, then the price in August was 3700 UAH, in September a seasonal increase in gas prices began, about 4200 UAH per thousand cubic meters, that is, 4 UAH 20 kopecks per cubic meter. This is the lowest price in the last five years., and this is the lowest price level in principle since independence. This is a free market, a person can choose a supplier. There is competition and this contributes to a decrease in prices. Of course, there is a seasonal behavior of gas prices. Naturally, gas is more expensive in winter, pay more for it, “predicted Shmygal.
How much the gas will cost in winter is not yet known, everything should be regulated by the market, Shmygal said.
“However, after the price increase in winter, spring and summer will come, and gas will be cheaper,” stressed the prime minister.
We will recall, the head of the board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolev said earlier that in September gas prices rose sharply in relation to the market trend.
