The Russian government has expanded personal sanctions against Ukraine
The changes refer to the decree of the Russian government of November 1, 2018, which indicates the people to whom personal sanctions apply.
The Russian government has expanded its sanctions against Ukraine. The list, among others, includes former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and former people’s deputy Svyatoslav Vakarchuk. The corresponding document was published on the legal information portal of the Russian Federation on Friday, September 4.
In addition to the former chairman and lead singer of the OE group, several Ukrainian officials and deputies also fell under the sanctions. In particular, the non-fractional MP Viktoria Grib, member of Batkivshchyna Mikhail Volynets. Also Alexey Kucherenko, Valentin Nalyvaichenko, Kira Rudik, Sergey Rakhmanin, Yana Zinkevich, Mikhail Zabrodsky, Olga Stefanishina, Sofia Fedina and Sergey Taruta.
In addition to them, Russia has imposed sanctions against Ukraine’s first deputy prime minister and Ukraine’s trade and economic development minister, Stepan Kubiv, who worked during the Poroshenko government. Also on the list is the vice president of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Akhtem Chiygoz.
The decision of the Russian government takes effect on the day of its publication.
As a reminder, Moscow introduced special economic sanctions against 322 individuals and 68 legal entities of Ukraine in November 2018. The list then included high-ranking politicians and officials, including Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak, the head of the National Security and Defense Council, Alexander Turchinov, and others.
The restrictive measures mean: freezing of accounts, registered values and assets of Ukrainian citizens against whom sanctions have been imposed on the territory of Russia. In addition, the Ukrainians who fell under the sanctions missed the opportunity to withdraw money from the Russian Federation.
Such measures were taken by the Russian government on the basis of the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin “On the application of special economic measures in connection with hostile actions of Ukraine against citizens and legal entities of the Russian Federation.”
Previously, the Australian government continued with sanctions against the Russian Federation until 2023.
