Oil products spill from the Delfi tanker that sank near Odessa
As a result of the leak, the concentration of petroleum products in the water is 5.8 times higher than the maximum allowed indicator.
There was another oil leak from the Delfi tanker that sank near Odessa. This was announced on Facebook by the president of the State Ecological Inspection, Andrei Malevany.
According to him, as a result of the leak, the concentration of petroleum products in the water is 5.8 times higher than the maximum allowed indicator. “Yesterday, experts from the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Odessa Region, when examining the area of water near the sunken ship, noticed spots and a silver-gray film, with a total area of 70 square meters. Laboratory studies showed an excess of the standardized values of maximum allowable concentrations in water by 5.8 times, “wrote Malevany. …
According to him, in order to quickly remove the contamination, representatives of the Odessa branch of the state company “USPA” carried out urgent work near the flooded tanker using a sorbent.
“The reason for the hydrocarbon spill is that work continues to stabilize the tanker and its recovery. The leakage of petroleum products has occurred because the ship is still being hoisted and stabilized. The State Environmental Inspection will be able to calculate the losses due to damage only after the Delfi tanker will finally be removed from the Black Sea, ”Malevany added.
As a reminder, the Delfi tanker sank off the coast of Odessa in November 2019, after it was ripped from anchor during a heavy storm.
Since then, they have tried to lift the tanker several times, but this was unsuccessful: the steel cables broke all the time. Meanwhile, fuel continues to flow out of the tanker periodically.
According to the latest forecasts, the tanker should be lifted by the end of this week.
