The organization expressed its great concern about the emergence of information on the use of the Novichok poison and announced its willingness to provide assistance.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) announced that it is ready to provide assistance to any country in the situation of the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who, according to German authorities, was poisoned with Novichok poison. This was announced on Thursday, September 3, by the general director of the organization, Fernando Arias, reports TASS.

He noted that any poisoning of a person with the use of a nerve agent is considered the use of chemical weapons.

“These complaints are cause for serious concern. The states parties to the OPCW consider that the use of chemical weapons by any person and in any circumstance is reprehensible and completely contrary to the legal norms established by the international community,” said Arias.

“The OPCW continues to monitor the situation and is ready to engage and assist any participating state that may request assistance,” Arias said. At the same time, the director general of the OPCW did not specify what exactly the organization’s attendance might be.

On the eve of the German government announced that Navalny was poisoned by Novichok. Tests in a German laboratory revealed traces of “a Novichok group chemical nerve agent.”

Then the Russian Federation called the poisoning of Navalny interference in internal affairs. Today, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he has information about the alleged falsification of Navalny’s analyzes in Germany.
