In an interview with the founder of the Internet publication “GORDON”, Dmitry Gordon, the first president of Ukraine, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the talks in Minsk, Leonid Kravchuk, expressed confidence that the majority of residents of the territories occupied by Donbass do not want to live under the jurisdiction of Ukraine.
“Most – no. This is not a feeling – I know … No, they do not want to. But they would like to be part of Ukraine autonomously. That is, to say that” I do not want to live on this land at all “- No. They want to live on this land, use the laws of Ukraine, the situation that exists in Ukraine, but be able to communicate with Russia, with others … “, – said Kravchuk.
In his opinion, the residents of Donbass really want a special status for their region.
Responding to a journalist’s question where he sees the limits of possible compromises in Donbass, Kravchuk said: “The most important limit of a compromise is sovereignty and independence. This issue is not put on the order of the day and is not discussed. with nobody, ever. As for the state itself … “The special status of Donbass” … But you can say this: “a special system of local government in Donbass.” We give special rights, freedoms, etc. This is the first … And the second: we offer a free economic zone to these regions … Not the occupied territories, but the entire Donetsk region, the entire Lugansk region. In this free economic zone system, the management , income, investments already work in completely different ways. “
According to Kravchuk, this is the way to solve problems “not by talking, but with concrete facts.”

In 2014, immediately after the annexation of Crimea, Russia launched an armed aggression in eastern Ukraine. The fighting is between the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the one hand, and the Russian army and the Russian-backed militants who control parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on the other. The Russian Federation does not officially recognize its invasion of Ukraine, despite the facts and evidence presented by Ukraine.
Negotiations on the resolution of the conflict are taking place within the framework of the trilateral contact group in Minsk (Ukraine – OSCE – Russia) and the Normandy Four (Ukraine – Germany – France – Russia).
Until recently, the Ukrainian delegation in Minsk was headed by Ukraine’s second president, Leonid Kuchma. On July 28, the Office of the President of Ukraine announced that Kuchma had resigned and would no longer participate in the work of the TCG.
On July 30, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Kravchuk as head of the delegation. The first president said that his main mission in this position was the end of the war in Donbass.
