The review of the Nord Stream 2 project should be the Kremlin’s response to the poisoning of the Russian opposition leader Novichok.

Demands to review the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project began to surface in German politicians after claims that opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a nerve agent from the Novichok group, Reuters reported on Thursday, September 3.

So, after the publication of the results of the investigation carried out by a German clinic, several politicians in Germany demanded a tough response to the Kremlin’s actions.

In particular, the head of the Munich Security Conference and former ambassador to Washington, Wolfgang Ischinger, spoke about the project.

“If we want to give Moscow a clear signal with our partners, then economic relations should be on the agenda, which means that the Nord Stream 2 project cannot be ignored,” he said.

The head of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee, Norbert Röttgen, also spoke in favor of closing the construction of the gas pipeline.

“We have to follow a tough policy, we have to respond with the only language that Putin understands is the sale of gas,” Röttgen told German radio.

He stressed that if the construction of the Nord Stream is completed now, this will be the ultimate confirmation and incentive for Putin to continue this policy.

On the eve of the German government announced that Navalny was poisoned by Novichok. Tests in a German laboratory revealed traces of “a Novichok group chemical nerve agent.”

Then the Russian Federation called the poisoning of Navalny interference in internal affairs. Today, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he has information about the alleged falsification of Navalny’s analyzes in Germany.
