Cereal harvest expected to fall in Ukraine

This year’s cereal harvest will be 7 million tonnes less than last year. This forecast was announced by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, September 2.

According to him, unfavorable weather conditions became the main reason.

“According to forecasts by the Ministry of Economy and experts, this year in Ukraine the grain harvest is expected to be 7 million tons less than last year. The main reason is the negative impact of weather conditions. This is of course the drought that occurred throughout the country, “said the prime minister. -Minister.

According to him, the Odessa region was particularly affected.

Recall that last year in Ukraine there was a record harvest of cereals – 74 million tons.

And in May this year, Ukraine lost 230 thousand hectares of crops due to drought. The Odessa region suffered the most, where, according to preliminary estimates, 148 thousand hectares of crops are considered lost.
