Facebook launched an investigation based on FBI information
Actions on the pages were targeting the United Kingdom, the United States, Algeria and Egypt, according to Facebook.
The US social networks Facebook and Twitter have removed or blocked a number of accounts associated with Russian structures for “unauthorized coordinated actions.” This was reported in the press releases of social networks made public the day before.
Thus, according to Facebook, 13 accounts and two pages associated with the Russian Internet Research Agency were removed from the social network. The actions of these pages were directed, according to the social network, to the United Kingdom, the United States, Algeria and Egypt.
“We launched this investigation based on information from the FBI. Our internal investigation has revealed the full reach of the network on Facebook,” the press release said.
Twitter, in turn, reports that five accounts have been blocked on this social network.
“For manipulations on the platform, we suspended five accounts that we can reliably correlate with Russian state entities,” the statement said.
It was previously reported that Facebook removed dozens of accounts used to influence elections in Ukraine last year. The organizers of the forgeries spent nearly $ 2 million on Facebook and Instagram ads during the presidential and parliamentary elections.
