The price of gas for the population increases according to the annual market trend. The price falls in summer and rises in winter, explained the director of Naftogaz Ukraine, Andrey Kobolev.

The head of NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine” Andriy Kobolev, in an interview with the TV channel “Ukraine 24”, mentioned the reason for the increase in gas prices for the population.

When asked why gas became more expensive, Kobolev replied that “there is a certain market trend that occurs every year.”

“Every year the price goes down very low in summer and, as a general rule, goes up for winter, for the high consumption season. There are certain exceptions, but the general trends in gas prices are a fall in the summer, a rise in the winter. The same is happening now, there is nothing surprising here. market, “he said.

In August, Naftogaz raised the price of gas for the population by 0.27 UAH per 1 m³. Consumers had to pay 3.24 UAH for 1 m³ of gas, including VAT and the shipping price.

From January to July 2020, the price of gas for the population was determined according to the formula called “Amsterdam Plus”: the price at the Dutch TTF center plus shipping costs to Ukraine. This principle was enshrined in a memorandum with the IMF signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky. Prices have not been directly regulated since August, but the principle of parity for imports has been maintained.

Since August, Naftogaz Ukrainy has offered gas to the population under annual contracts according to the formula: the price in the German NCG center plus a fixed surcharge of € 1.95 / MWh (about $ 21 / thousand m3), which corresponds to the logistics costs of gas delivery in Ukraine.

A similar Rotterdam plus formula was used to calculate the cost of coal to establish a projection of the cost of electricity exclusively for industrial consumers in the period 2016-2019. It included the cost of delivering coal from the Amsterdam – Rotterdam – Antwerp hubs for all coal. The formula was canceled on July 1, 2019 with the introduction of the electricity market. After that, the price of coal and electricity for industrialists went up.
