The press service of the Cherkasy Hromadske region police reported that the teenagers broke the pilgrim’s nose. The criminal proceeding was not opened because the victim refused to write a statement. It is known that the victim was an Israeli with a residence permit in Ukraine.

Every fall, Hasidim from all over the world come to Uman, where the tomb of the leader of the Bratslav Hasidim, Tzadik Nachman, is located to celebrate Rosh Hasidim. In 2019, more than 30 thousand pilgrims arrived in Uman.

In 2020, the celebration is scheduled for September 18-20.

From August 29 to September 28, 2020, the border of Ukraine was closed to foreigners, such a decision was made at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on August 26. The restrictions will not apply to those who have the right to reside in Ukraine, study on the territory of Ukraine, serve in the Armed Forces, cross the territory of the country in transit (leaving within two days), members of diplomatic missions and sports delegations. The decision was made unanimously due to the worsening of the situation with the spread of the coronavirus infection.

“Evropeyskaya Pravda”, citing sources, said that the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was dictated by the desire to prevent Hasidim from making pilgrimages to the Rosh Hashanah celebration.

Two days before the border was closed, the Hasidim began arriving in Ukraine.
