The Poltava airport runway repair should start this year, believes Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The head of state announced the construction of airports in all major points of Ukraine next year.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as part of a working trip to the Poltava region, got acquainted with the project for the reconstruction of the local airport runway and mentioned the timing of the construction of airports at all important points in Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the head of state on Tuesday, September 1.
The Acting Director General of the Poltava Airport company, Vladimir Okara, noted that development activities amounting to 78.2 million hryvnia were financed from the regional budget. In particular, a major remodeling of the terminal building was carried out with the provision of an international checkpoint, current repairs of an artificial runway, taxiway and apron.
Special equipment was also purchased, but the measures taken are not sufficient to comply with aviation security requirements, for international and domestic flights. For the full operation of the company, it is necessary to rebuild the runway, replace its lighting system, install aircraft landing systems, rebuild the airport perimeter fence and purchase the necessary transportation. This will allow it to receive Boeing and Airbus class aircraft.
Volodymyr Okara noted that UAH 425 million should be allocated for the reconstruction of the strip.
“You have to make a strip. It does not make sense to support, since money is spent in support and the strip still does not work,” the president stressed.
According to Volodymyr Zelensky, the repair of the strip should start this year. In particular, funds for repairs will be allocated in the regional budget.
The deputy head of the president’s office, Kirill Tymoshenko, said that next year, the strip’s repair work will be included in the national Big Construction program. At the expense of the Poltava region budget this year, the design and estimation documentation must be developed.
“We will definitely include the Poltava airport in the second part of our program. Big construction, where there will be airports in all the important points of Ukraine. We will start to build them in 2021. We will build, I am sure, in two or three years all the airports that will be they need in Ukraine. ” We will build them ”, assured the president, reports Ukrinform.
“As for the Poltava airport: nobody arrives in Poltava, today the airport does not work, and when we landed I understood why they did not arrive, that is, there was the feeling that this was our last trip. The runway is really not of high quality It is not modern, it does not work. “, – added the head of state.
Recall that on August 20, Zelensky was on a working trip to the Kherson region. He visited the town of Sadovoe and spoke with local residents, instructing the Cabinet of Ministers to prepare a concept for the development of small towns and cities. Zelensky was also reported to have brought foreign ambassadors to the Kherson region.
