The opposition asked the authorities to stop pressuring the members of the Coordination Council

The opposition views Vlasova’s arrest and the administrative arrests of Presidium members Olga Kovalkova and Sergei Dylevsky as politically motivated pressure.

The arrest of a member of the Presidium of the Belarusian Opposition Coordination Council, Lilia Vlasova, by the special services underlines the lack of preparation of the authorities for dialogue. The council said in a statement issued Monday, Aug. 31.

The opposition considers the arrest of Vlasova and the administrative arrests of Presidium members Olga Kovalkova and Sergei Dylevsky, as well as the initiation of a criminal case on the establishment of the Coordination Council, as politically motivated pressure.

“The actions of the authorities are aimed at disorganizing the work of the Coordinating Council and indicate that the authorities are not interested in public dialogue and in solving the internal political crisis through negotiations,” the statement read.

As reported, a member of the Presidium of the Coordination Council of the Belarus opposition, Lilia Vlasova, was detained in Minsk by employees of the Financial Investigations Department of the State Control Committee.
