Russian actor Mikhail Efremov, accused of committing a fatal accident, said he needed a biological test.
Russian actor Mikhail Efremov, on trial for his fatal traffic accident at Moscow’s Presnensky Court, compared himself to a person on death row. Reported by MK.ru.
“In addition to drunkenness, he was clearly insane and beaten. In the old days, the court fulfilled the last wish of a person sentenced to death. I was sentenced to death on June 9 on all federal television channels.” I have never driven drunk. This is evidenced by my experience, “he said.
According to the investigation, Efremov caused an accident in central Moscow on the night of June 8. In Smolenskaya Square, his Jeep Grand Cherokee entered the opposite lane and collided with a Lada pickup. The driver of the van Sergey Zakharov later died in hospital from his injuries.
Immediately after the accident, the Russian police said that, according to the examination, Efremov got behind the wheel in a state of alcohol intoxication. On June 9, Russian media reported that traces of cocaine and cannabinoids were found in the actor’s analyzes. On June 10, the Moscow prosecutor’s office confirmed that at the time of the accident, Efremov was in a state not only of alcohol, but also of drug intoxication. Since June 9, he has been under house arrest.
On June 12, Efremov recorded a video message apologizing for the accident. He, in particular, said he was not going to “evade” responsibility with the help of friends.
On July 21, the Moscow prosecutor’s office confirmed the indictment in this case. The plaintiff is charged with a crime under paragraph “a” of Part 4 of art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the rules of the road by a person driving a car, committed in a state of intoxication, resulting in the death of a person through negligence). The case was transferred to the Presnensky District Court in Moscow. The actor faces a prison term of five to 12 years.
On July 3, attorney Pashayev said his client did not plead guilty to the accident. Pashayev claims that Efremov “did not commit this crime” but declined to comment further.
On August 5, the Presnensky Court in Moscow began to consider the case on the merits. During the meeting, Efremov said he could not plead guilty, because “he does not remember anything.”
A witness to the incident, Alexander Kobets, during a court hearing on August 20, said Efremov was not driving his car during the fatal accident. Kobets said a young man with dark hair was driving.
