Razumkov spoke about the prospects of holding local elections in Donbass
There are still no legislative initiatives on this issue. Furthermore, according to President Razumkov, a change in the laws in the remaining period before the elections could jeopardize elections across the country.
The profile committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine considered Leonid Kravchuk’s call on the possibility of changing the legislation to organize voting in the territory controlled by Ukraine in the east of the country. A working group has been created, but there are no legislative initiatives on this issue yet. Parliament Speaker Dmitry Razumkov told reporters about this, according to the PavlovskyNEWS telegram channel.
He noted that, according to Ukrainian law, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine must announce elections no later than 90 days before their start, in connection with which he expressed concern that changes in the laws in the remaining short term could threaten the organization of the expression of will throughout the country.
We will remember, earlier, the former president of Ukraine and now a member of the negotiating group on Donbass, Leonid Kravchuk, said that Russia threatened to block all processes in Donbass if Ukraine refuses to hold elections in eastern Ukraine.
In early August, the Central Election Commission decided not to hold local elections in the Ukrainian-controlled territories in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Local elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 25, 2020.
