Ukraine’s Health Minister Maxim Stepanov noted that the ELISA test for coronavirus is cheaper than the PCR test.
For the hospitalization of Ukrainians, they must undergo ELISA tests to detect coronavirus infection. Health Minister Maxim Stepanov told Radio Svoboda in an interview that was published on August 29.
This came after the journalist’s question about the need for mandatory tests before hospitalization and about the high cost of the test, which “must be done in private laboratories.”
“This is also, excuse the word, ‘miracles’ from our local workers or doctors, or from someone else. We have written clearly: all those who need hospitalization, are not evaluated by PCR, but by ELISA, which is much cheaper” , – said Stepanov.
According to the minister, the decision to perform the ELISA test was made three months ago, but his department “every day” is struggling with the demand for the results of PCR tests.
“By the way, by the way, again, getting a lot of those questions on Facebook, I said to make those infographics as much as possible in all our algorithms so that they are understandable to people, so that a person who comes, for example, start demanding PCR test, so he said: “No, I’m sorry, according to the standards approved in our country by the Ministry of Health, this must be an ELISA test, which is performed by many hospitals, and there is no need to do a PCR test, “Stepanov explained.
A PCR test, in which a swab is taken from the nose or throat, determines if a person is contagious. The ELISA test shows if you were sick and if you were sick at the time of the study.
Starting in the morning On August 30, the total number of confirmed cases of infection in Ukraine reached 119,074… 2527 people died from coronavirus infection, 56734 patients recovered during the epidemic.
