Since the beginning of the year, 25 thousand people have been attracted to military service under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which allows reducing the number of recruits in October-December, reported the General Staff of Ukraine.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine plans to reduce the number of conscripts for military service in the fall. This was announced on August 29 on the Facebook page of the General Staff.

The General Staff explained that the military police stations are gradually being transformed into territorial centers for recruitment and social support. This has a positive effect on the number of citizens entering military service under the contract.

“So, since the beginning of the year, 25 thousand people have been involved in military service under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (of which more than 2 thousand are officers). October – December of this year. Proposals are being prepared for presentation to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, “the statement said.



The above recruitment was supposed to start on April 1 and last until June 30, 2020, but due to the coronavirus epidemic and quarantine, the recruitment drive was postponed to May-July. On August 1, the General Staff reported that the recruitment was completed, in troops sent 16,460 people.

Men aged 20-27 were conscripted for military service in Ukraine for several years. But on January 16, 2020, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Decree No. 13/2020 on the conscription of men from the age of 18 to military service. Recruits ages 18-19 are dispatched to units only at will.
