The death toll from Hurricane Laura, which struck the US state of Louisiana the day before, rose to 16. Hundreds of thousands of people are without electricity or water.

The Associated Press reports.

The most recent victims of the disaster are an 80-year-old woman and an 84-year-old man who died of carbon monoxide poisoning while using generators.

According to local residents, in Louisiana, a hurricane downed trees, smashed windows, ripped roofs off houses, or completely destroyed buildings and even entire neighborhoods. Hundreds of thousands of people are left without electricity or water.

On Saturday, August 29, US President Donald Trump visited the dilapidated state, where he met with Governor John Edwards and Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf.

During his conversation with the president, the governor of Louisiana noted that “Laura” was the most powerful hurricane in the state’s history.

According to him, it even surpassed Hurricane Katrina, which when it collapsed off the US coast in 2005 was in the third category.

Remember, previously 14 victims of hurricane “Laura” were reported.

On Wednesday night, Hurricane Laura, ranked fourth on a five-point scale, approached the coast of Louisiana and Texas.

A hurricane in southwestern Louisiana caused a chemical plant to escape chlorine and fire.

Already over the state of Louisiana, Hurricane Laura weakened to a tropical storm and then completely became a tropical depression.
