On Saturday, August 29, a women’s march takes place in Minsk and other Belarusian cities. The activists demand a new presidential election and the release of all political prisoners.
In Minsk, several thousand women reached Victory Square and advanced in column towards Independence Square. They are accompanied by riot police, police and special equipment.

Due to the solidarity action of the women, the Oktyabrskaya, Kupalovskaya, Lenin Square and Victory Square metro stations were closed in Minsk. There are also problems with internet access in the city center.
According to Salidarnasts, the security forces blocked the women’s march in Victory Square from two sides. Onliner reports that part of the column reached Yakub Kolos. The solidarity march turned to the Academy of Sciences.
At least one participant was arrested. The security forces also disrupted the broadcast of Radio Svaboda, detaining members of the film crew to review their documents.
According to journalists, up to 10,000 people took to the streets of Minsk, KYKY reports.
Presidential elections were held in Belarus on August 9, which from the first days of the election campaign were accompanied by massive protests against Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled the country only for the past 26 years.
Belarus CEC gave victory to Alexander Lukashenko (80% of the votes). Opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya reportedly won 10% of the vote.
