Putin said he recognizes the victory of his Belarusian colleague in the elections and doubts the honesty of those who disagree with the election results.

The Russian Federation recognized the elections in Belarus as legitimate and Alexander Lukashenko was the winner. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this in an interview on the Russia-1 television channel.

He noted that he had already congratulated Lukashenka on his victory.

“We started from the assumption that the elections took place. I did it immediately, we recognized their legitimacy,” he said.

Putin believes that there are reasons to doubt the honesty of those who disagree with the results of the elections in Belarus.

Putin also said that the Belarusian authorities had invited OSCE representatives to the elections as observers, but did not attend. According to him, this suggests that the position on the results of these elections was prepared in advance.

Earlier, Putin said that he had prepared a pool of security officials for Belarus. They will only be sent to Belarus if “extremist elements” start stealing.

Before that, Lukashenko said that, in accordance with his agreements with Putin, at the first request, Russia will provide assistance to ensure security in Belarus.
