On August 29, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Remembrance of the country’s defenders. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy participated in the tribute to the fallen soldiers.
In Kiev, on the territory of the Commemorative Complex of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine are held. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, participated in them, the broadcast was carried out on the page of the Office of the President on Facebook.
During the celebration, the names and surnames of 223 soldiers who died on August 29, 2014 near Ilovaisk were read. The last name of each fallen soldier was honored with the blow of the Bell of Remembrance and a volley of small armsreported the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The ceremony was attended by the families of the fallen soldiers.
“The Ilovaisk tragedy happened that day. We must not forget this day, every name that rang. I asked how many minutes our boys’ names were read. It lasted about 40 minutes. Unfortunately, we cannot shorten this time. The state can make so that this time does not increase, ”Zelensky commented.

In mid-August 2014, the Ukrainian military and volunteers managed to take control of most of Ilovaisk, but after Russian troops entered the combat area on August 23-24, Ukrainian fighters were surrounded. British researchers have created an interactive video platform that demonstrates the involvement of Russian military teams in the battles for Ilovaisk.
On August 21, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine provided the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague with evidence of war crimes committed by Russia in Ilovaisk in August 2014.
