Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov had a conversation with the Ukrainian National Guard, Vitaly Markiv, sentenced to 24 years in prison in Italy.

The corresponding video was published on the Youtube channel of the Ministry of the Interior of Ukraine. During the conversation, the minister told Vitaly that on Monday he would hold a large briefing to demonstrate real new evidence obtained by the National Police during the investigation into the circumstances of the deaths of Italian photojournalist A. Rocchelli and Russian translator A. Mironov on May 24, 2014. (watch the video, scroll to the end of the story).

“Vitaly, we will prove new evidence of your innocence during the briefing on Monday. We will not stop, we will fight to the end, we are confident of our victory!” – said the minister.

Avakov noted that the results of the investigative actions, in particular the conclusions of the examinations carried out, unequivocally prove Markiv’s innocence and the Ukrainian side is ready to provide these materials to the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Italy. for a thorough and objective examination of the case in the framework of the appeal process. For its part, the National Guard indicated that it understands the politicization of the case.

Markiv also thanked everyone for their moral support.

“I understand that it is not me, but Ukraine that is being tried. To create a precedent with this case. To put pressure on Russian interests. And in the end to lift sanctions. Everyone here understands what this case is,” he said.

In addition, the minister showed Vitaly a photo of Sophia Square in central Kiev, where a large banner was placed in support of the fighter, noting that Ukraine remembers him.
