Artem Sytnik will continue to lead NABU

Ukraine’s Law on NABU contains a list of grounds for dismissing the director of the Office, and among them there are no decisions of the Constitutional Court, said the press service of the department.

The decision of the Constitutional Court on the illegality of the appointment of Artem Sytnik as head of the National Anti-Corruption Office is politically motivated. This was announced on Friday night, August 28, by the Office’s press service on Facebook.

“Accepted <...> shortly after the release of the so-called “OASK tapes”, which documented conversations about “justice administered in Ukraine”, including <...> KSU, this decision is a further step towards destroying the institutional independence of the Office, “he said in the message.

In addition, the judges will also consider the declarations of the popular deputies on the alleged unconstitutionality of the creation of the NABU itself.

“The initiators of these appeals <...> there were people involved in the NABU investigations, including those who already have suspect status or are in the dock, “the statement said.

At the same time, the press service noted that the Law of Ukraine ABOUT NABU it contains an exhaustive list of grounds for the dismissal of the Director of the Office, and there are no decisions of the Constitutional Court among them.

Recall that the Constitutional Court of Ukraine recognized unconstitutional the decree of former President Petro Poroshenko on the appointment of Artem Sytnik as director of NABU.

At the same time, Sytnik will continue to head the department, as there is now no legal mechanism to appoint a new NABU director, said Fyodor Venislavsky, presidential representative on the Constitutional Court.
