The current leader of Belarus will participate in his country’s presidential elections for the sixth consecutive time.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko submitted documents to register as a candidate for the new presidential election, scheduled for August this year, to the Central Electoral Commission. On Thursday, May 14, the Belarus Central Electoral Commission reports.

It should be noted that Lukashenko’s initiative group was also registered, its leader being the head of the Federation of Trade Unions Mikhail Orda.

According to the head of the Central Electoral Commission, Lydia Yermoshina, the initiative group of the current president included almost 11 thousand people.

Currently, 14 candidates are registered in the presidential elections in Belarus. In addition to Lukashenko, these are 11 non-partisan candidates, as well as the representative of the United Civil Party Vladimir Nepomnyashchikh and deputy of the Liberal Democratic Party Oleg Gaydukevich.

Recall that the presidential elections in Belarus are scheduled for August 9, despite COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the Belarusian opposition considers the August 9 elections unacceptable. They stated that it was not possible to collect signatures for candidates due to the risk of coronavirus infection.
