Why was Kiev chained by huge bottlenecks? Photo “Countries”
It is impossible to drive in Kiev as of Tuesday – unprecedented traffic jams occurred even in pre-quarantine times in the city.
Previously, such congestion was mainly caused by bad weather, but now it is the fault of the ill-conceived actions of the authorities that quarantined small businesses, but forgot to provide transportation for this.
As a result, thousands of people who used to get on the subway or buses are forced to go to work by taxi or in their own cars. What blocked traffic in the capital.
It got to the point that Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko, who had been asking “not to be in a hurry” for two months and a former supporter of strict quarantine, demanded that the Cabinet of Ministers open the subway the other day.
“Country” understood how inconsistent actions by the authorities led to a collapse of transportation in the capital.
Kiev stuck
Today, Kiev again jammed the jams. Starting at 10 a.m., all bridges on the left bank to the right are blocked. Except Darnitsky, who, by the way, also stretches very slowly.
A particular collapse occurs on the North Bridge (formerly Moscow), which is located from Perov Boulevard.
In other words, the situation is as it usually is during peak hours without quarantine.
Traffic jams: on all the usual roads for this: Victoria Avenue, Borshchagovskaya Street, Vadim Getman, Zhilyanskaya, Valery Lobanovsky Avenue, Bolshaya Okruzhnaya Road, Akademika Glushkova Avenue, Naberezhnoye Shosse, Naberezhno-Khreschatitskaya Avenue, Stepan Bandera Avenue and Heroes Avenue Avenue.
If you zoom in on the map, you can see that in the main arteries of the capital there are more than a dozen traffic accidents. But they do not explain what is happening.
So, for example, the North Bridge got stuck without an accident, that is, the reason is the prohibitive number of cars that, contrary to Klitschko’s call to “not wander”, flooded the city.
“Hell in Kiev with traffic jams. I left the house at 7 in the morning hoping to get in, but I’ve already been moving an inch for two hours,” a Kiev woman living in a suburb told Strana. next to the Odessa road.
Social media posts photos of Kiev congestion. “Balzac is now. I’m on the far left. Police can’t drive in the oncoming lane,” writes Dmitry Kozionov.
Last night the situation was not better.
“More than two hours of travel from Gulliver to Priorka. A dozen vodyaty, deployed in front of my nose through a solid double.
These libraries of yours need to be closed, otherwise the traffic jams are staggering, “journalist Taras Kozub ironically says.
Almost the same situation was the day before yesterday, the first business day after the weakening of the quarantine in Kiev. Furthermore, bottlenecks did not even occur at peak hours. Here’s the situation at 1:00 PM on May 12:
I mean, the situation has turned like this this week. Apparently, because the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, yesterday asked the Cabinet to open a metro in the city, although he had previously been the main defender of the strictest transport quarantine.
But what is the reason for such hellish bottlenecks in quarantine?
Why Kiev drowns in congestion
The main reason is the partial weakening of the quarantine in the capital, which entered into force on May 12.
Many shops, restaurants and cafes, hairdressers and beauty salons were opened. MAF earned, home service companies: workshops, laundries. That is, a large segment of the capital’s business has entered, with thousands of jobs (how it works, in the Strana material. In stores, the collapse of sales, beauty salons increase prices, restaurants are empty. How is the business opened after quarantine?).
This means that the employees of the open institutions went to work. That when public transport stops can be done in two ways: by taxi or by own car.
That is why a large number of cars hit the streets of the capital. And taxi services, due to excessive demand, have increased their price by two or three times. This also affects the pockets of the residents of the capital, who, due to necessity, need to “wander” to work.
The main question for this whole situation is for the city authorities. Which were obliged to provide such development of events. But the alarm in the city hall started ringing only when the capital began to drown in traffic jams on the second day.
However, already in the Cabinet relaxation stage of quarantine, it was clear that without opening a transport, starting a small business seems very problematic. Not everyone has cars, as is the ability to get around by taxi.
In other words, it is obvious that it was necessary to eliminate the concessions of companies’ work in parallel with the liberalization of urban transport. If not even the subway, at least open part of the land routes.
Nothing of this was done; Furthermore, the metropolitan authorities did not even make such proposals. I mean, he clearly didn’t even think about the consequences.
How are they going to solve the problem?
Yesterday, Vitali Klitschko requested the opening of the subway in Kiva immediately after the end of the current quarantine period and the launch of the subway from May 25. In addition, without restrictions, except for said mask mode and the obligation to wear gloves.
It also announced plans to launch ground transportation in the same time period.
It is true that the Cabinet, behind which the last word on this issue, did not make clear promises to the mayor. The word “prematurely” rang out.
“The government, of course, listens and listens to requests to fully launch transportation, particularly the subway. But it is not my desire not to start the subway. All models and calculations show that premature launch means tens of thousands of patients.” Denis Shmygal said at a government meeting.
The head of the Ministry of Health, Maxim Stepanov, specified that his department will write down the criteria when it is possible to open the metro in the cities of Ukraine and when the capital corresponds to them, then it will launch the metro.
“We will present specific proposals for the quarantine exit stages that will be approved by a government decree. There will be all, without exception, criteria and under what conditions urban transport and the metro can be opened. If Kiev meets these criteria, it will not We will see problems in this. But only if it meets the criteria, “the minister said today in a briefing at the Ministry of Health.
President Vladimir Zelensky also vaguely hinted that the subway cannot be opened yet.
That is, on his own initiative, Klitschko has so far been rejected. Unless, of course, the mayor didn’t count on him initially.
The mayor may have just said what he would like to hear from the people of Kiev, outraged by the traffic jams. In fact, more recently, the mayor has generally threatened to toughen up the quarantine and cancel all concessions. He also campaigned for the continued closure of the subway and the rest of the transport.
In other words, Klitschko was in favor of strict quarantine and even introduced nonsensical thermometry at the entrances to the capital, which created traffic jams of a kilometer long. And literally, in a couple of days, this position, at least in words, has changed.
However, as the collapse of transport in Kiev continues, both metropolitan and central authorities may begin to respond faster and launch public transport ahead of schedule. A similar situation was with markets and small businesses, which protested against the concessions introduced on May 11.
However, so far this indecision of many is frankly annoying. Journalists and bloggers point out that the metro was not closed in any European capital.
Warning question:
Are there other cities in the world, except Kiev, where the metro does not work? Even after the quarantine ends.
And the second question, can anyone clearly explain why the subway is not launched, why the traffic jams and who specifically decided to close it, the name of this wonderful and intelligent person for collective gratitude, “writes businessman Evgeny Chernyak.
“I am not one of those bloggers who complains about bad roads and traffic jams. Usually I am a bastard, I listen to music, read and listen on the phone. But today the city has stopped. There are three ways to solve this problem. Turn on the subway. Or or return quarantine. And the third is to evaluate these actions as sabotage and open criminal proceedings to find out what state quarantine managers work for. There is no fourth available, “writes journalist Svetlana Kryukova.
