Poland lacks Ukrainian workers

In Poland, there is now a need for “hundreds of thousands” of Ukrainian seasonal workers. Without them, crops can be lost.

Without the Ukrainian zarobitchan, Poland will be very difficult to harvest. Poles will not be able to replace Ukrainian workers, said the head of the Polish Association of Fruit and Vegetable Processors, owner of one of the largest processing companies in Poland (Real SA), Andrzej Gajovnichek. He discussed the situation with zarobitchanam in an interview with Ukrinform.

“Poland is a major food producer, one of the largest in Europe. Let’s say we grow more mushrooms in the EU, etc. So if the Ukrainian workers don’t come, it will be a disaster. What will be grown in the fields will be lost, because there will be no one to collect, “says Gayovnichek.

According to him, in Poland there is now a need for “hundreds of thousands” of Ukrainian seasonal workers.

Furthermore, he believes that if Ukrainians cannot come to Poland at the start of the strawberry picking season, this could even provoke protests from Polish farmers.

At the same time, Poles will not be able to replace Ukrainian migrant workers, Gayovnichek is sure.

“This is all an illusion. Obviously not (the Poles will not replace the Ukrainian workers),” the Polish employer emphasized.

Gayovnichek emphasized that Ukrainians working in Poland must have decent working conditions, social and monetary security. According to him, Ukrainians should earn at least 12-14 zlotys (75-90 UAH) per net hour in Poland.

“But it depends on the sphere of employment, because, for example, they earn a little more in construction. Very often, Ukrainians try to work longer hours to earn more,” Gayovnichek said.
