Ukraine has banned the departure of citizens without the permission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - British Embassy

For departure, Ukrainians must have a permanent residence

Only citizens with the right to permanent residence abroad can leave Ukraine, say British diplomats.

The Ukrainian authorities imposed a ban on the departure of its citizens without the separate permission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This was reported by the British embassy in Ukraine on its Facebook page.

“The Ukrainian authorities informed us that only Ukrainian citizens with permanent residence in other states will be able to leave the territory of Ukraine,” the embassy said.

According to British diplomats, those Ukrainians who have the relevant documents must obtain permission to leave the Foreign Office. The embassy helps obtain such a permit if it receives information about the planned trip no later than 72 hours before the scheduled departure of the charter flight or when crossing the land border.

“The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs may allow the departure of Ukrainian citizens with a residence permit in the United Kingdom. The British Embassy supports this process by informing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of their planned trip and sending them information on their status as a resident of the United Kingdom, “said the diplomatic mission, noting that the new order refers to direct flights to Great Britain, flights to other countries, from where there are open communications with Great Britain, as well as departures across the land border.

The embassy said they could not help citizens with other British visas or other permits to leave Ukraine. In the comments, diplomats explained that only Ukrainians with the right to permanent residence abroad can leave the country. In the case of the United Kingdom, this is a biometric residence permit.

It should be noted that the final decision on entering the United Kingdom is always made by the country’s border forces upon the arrival of the citizens.

The day before, President Vladimir Zalensky said that Ukraine would allow the people of Zarobitnik to go abroad, provided the host country assumed a series of obligations.

In turn, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba argued that leaving for temporary workers and labor migrants from Ukraine was not prohibited, but at the same time noted that there were difficulties in sending them due to quarantine.
