The Ukrainian authorities are not going to block the departure of citizens for seasonal work abroad, but the host country is obliged to provide Ukrainians with housing and medical insurance. This was stated by the head of the Ukrainian state Vladimir Zelensky.
Ukraine will not block the departure of “zarobitchans” abroad, provided the host country provides a contract for a minimum of three months of work, housing and health insurance. This was announced by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on May 9 at a briefing in the transcarpathian region, the Ukrinform news agency reported.
“We are not blocking anything from anyone. We explain that when we are quarantined, it must be respected. This must be understood. We let citizens go to these jobs, provided they show us a copy of the contract with the person for at least three months of work.” Zelensky said.
According to him, the authorities must be sure “that if something happens to our citizen, they will not throw him out on the street.”
Countries that sent requests to organize special flights for Ukrainian workers include Germany, Italy, Finland and Poland.
“If you want to work abroad, please, there is no slavery in Ukraine,” added Zelensky.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Social Policy reported in 2019 that more than 3.2 million people work permanently abroad.. Some of the Ukrainian “Zarobitchans” lost their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic and the termination of air traffic by Ukraine.
On April 24, it emerged that Finland, despite restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, organized a flight to deliver seasonal workers from Ukraine.
On April 28, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine announced that several countries, despite closed borders, are ready to receive seasonal workers from Ukraine. At the same time, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba believes that in the context of a pandemic, any trip is “a danger of illness.”
On May 1, Deputy Prime Minister Vadim Pristayko said the Ukrainian cabinet expects “a centralized appeal from the governments of the countries interested in our workers.”
