Stanislav Aseev, a former DNR militant prisoner who had been in captivity for two and a half years and was released during an earlier exchange late last year, told Radio Liberty today about the exchange in the Donbass.
“Today’s prisoner exchange once again raises more questions than answers. Some of these questions are on the formal level, such as: who is responsible for the exchange process in Ukraine and makes lists? Hence the following question: Why are these lists exactly the same, which is the principle of selecting those who will leave this time? But the most complicated question is morality: is it acceptable in the matter of sharing the phrase “we do not divide our citizens into categories, so we take all of us who give away “? The answer is obvious to me: no,” says Stanislav Aseev.
According to him, “first, these categories exist regardless of our desire, namely: prisoners of war; members of sabotage groups; civilians from the network of agents of our special services; ordinary civilians; criminals and fighters who also have a Ukrainian passport and they don’t mind using exchange to get out of prison in their own “republic.” The idea that the latter have the same exchange “rights” as the former is political and has no right to exist during the war. criminals and fighters can impose on us and the party is giving away someone who has really done a lot for the state. “
“In this case, society should be made aware of this through communication with the Office of the President, and law enforcement agencies should respond to the release of such ‘patriots’ as was the case with Brazhnikov. But the main idea is that the exchange during the war should not only be quantitative, but also qualitative, given the specific names and the humanitarian component, such as the physical condition of the prisoner, ”Stas Aseev said in a comment on Radio Svoboda.
