The first deceased of COVID-19 in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra territory was Archimandrite Nectary. He was buried in the sanctuary.

Nectary’s death was reported on April 12. The cause of his death was COVID-19. However, in the same laurel he stated that Nectary died after a long fight against pneumonia.

However, Nectary was buried on April 14, not only in a sealed grave, but also wrapped in a protective film. Church journalist Tatiana Derkach posted a photo of the monk’s funeral.

Coronavirus in Kiev-Pechersk Lavra: the main thing

  • Subsequently, the infection began to spread rapidly in the bay. As of April 10, at least 90 were infected. And on April 14, hundreds of infected people found out.
  • At the same time, according to Tatiana Derkach, more than 130 people are infected in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Among them are 14 seminary students who have not been allowed to quarantine their home. And only after the detection of a coronavirus in the laurel, they were still sent home.
