The Deputy Minister of Health, the state’s chief medical officer, Viktor Lyashko, said that the elections were held in accordance with the sanitary standards prescribed in the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers.
During local elections held in Ukraine on October 25, 50 people were transferred from polling stations to hospitals, one person died. This was announced on October 26 on Hromadsky radio by the Deputy Minister of Health, the state’s chief medical officer, Viktor Lyashko.
“There were 250 ambulance calls to polling stations, 50 people were hospitalized, one person died of cardiac arrest before the ambulance arrived,” Lyashko said.
He noted that members of constituencies and voters mostly met anti-epidemic requirements.
“In general, the elections were carried out in accordance with the sanitary standards prescribed in the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers. There were no serious violations. Most of the time the violations in the polling stations are the breach of social distance and the absence of shields of the members of the electoral commissions, “added the vice minister.
According to the Chief Medical Officer, local elections should not cause an increase in COVID-19.
On October 25, local elections were held throughout Ukraine, except for annexed Crimea and the occupied regions of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Citizens of Ukraine elected heads of cities, towns and municipalities, as well as deputies of regional, district, city, town and village councils. The elections were held for the first time in accordance with the new Electoral Code, according to the proportional system with open lists. According to the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, the turnout was 36.88%.
