Tomorrow, October 20, Sergei Rebrov’s Ferencvaros will play against Barcelona in the first round of the Champions League. The Ukrainian coach recalled his clashes with the Catalans during his career as a Dynamo player:
“I am very proud of my team, because playing against Barcelona is great. 25 years ago, something similar happened to me, this is a once in a lifetime experience. This year we still have games with Juventus, as I did when I was a player. These are memories that will stay with us forever, they need to be enjoyed to the fullest.
In 1993 we beat the great Barcelona 3: 1, and then they beat us 4: 1 in the second leg. Everything was new to us. When we arrived at the Camp Nou, we did not believe the size. It wasn’t easy to play back then.
Then, in the 1997/98 season, everything was different. We had more experience and confidence. We won 4: 0. After the game I spoke with Figo and he told me that we destroyed them. We don’t let them control the ball, we create moment by moment. It was a great moment for the Dynamo and for all Ukrainian football.
Ours is blowing from Shevchenko? We got along well and it showed on the field. We enjoy playing together and have difficult times together. So we wanted to progress every day and realize ourselves. This was the secret of success. “
