UK tourists can be banned from the EU after 1 January under the Kovid rules

A European Commission official told CNN on Thursday that from that date, UK passengers will be subject to travel restrictions similar to those of other EU countries.

The current Brexit transition period expires on 31 December and these travel restrictions will apply even if the UK and EU make a trade deal.

“The UK is not part of the Shenzhen area and – after the end of the transition period – it will no longer be treated the same as a member state,” the European Commission official added. [EU] Council’s recommendation on an external travel ban. “

The recommendation states that the regime should also consider whether EU citizens are allowed to travel to that country on a regular and case-by-case basis.

The Council is responsible for reviewing the list of third countries to which the travel ban is lifted and will therefore need to consider the UK’s inclusion, a European Commission official said.

An EU official from the European Council told CNN that the next review, to be held in the weekend of December, will consider the UK along with other non-EU countries.

“It is too early to confirm at this stage what the status of the country will be,” the council official explained, adding that “the list of countries for which sanctions should be lifted will be updated regularly.” January 1. “
