Headliners Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige weighed in for the UFC card Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, but there were some issues on the scale.
Two fighters lost weight in Tuesday’s weigh-ins and one fight was called off before the UFC on ESPN 13. Welterweight Abdul Razzak Alhassan weighed 174 pounds, three pounds over the limit, while featherweight Chris Fishgold weighed 149 pounds, too three pounds over the limit.
Alhassan and Fishgold will now fight their respective opponents Mounir Lazzez and Jared Gordon at a surprise weight and will be fined 20 percent of their bags.
In addition to those failures, a light heavyweight bout between Kenneth Bergh and Jorge González has been called off after Bergh was deemed “medically unfit to compete” due to weight reduction issues. González still successfully gained weight, presumably to make him eligible to receive his wallet. MMA Viking was the first to report Bergh’s withdrawal.
The UFC issued the following statement on Bergh’s status:
Due to weight control issues, light heavyweight Kenneth Bergh has been declared medically unfit to compete and his fight against Jorge Gonzalez is canceled.
